Grazing Improvement Act
U.S. Representative Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) is a friend of the American rancher and advocate for the Grazing Improvement Act of 2012. I’ll share some of his concerns and ideas when Open Range returns. U.S. Representative Paul Labrador from Idaho was pretty vocal regarding his position that ranchers are proud stewards of the land and that livestock grazing is an important part of America’s rich ranching tradition. The bill he is proposing is titled The Grazing Improvement Act of 2012. Labrador has expressed frustration with the grazing permit process that has become backlogged due to lawsuits from environmental groups that want cattle off the range. His bill would accomplish three important goals. First it extends livestock grazing permits from 10 to 20 years to provide stability for producers. The twenty year period would also reduce the workload on federal land managers at the local level. This bill includes bipartisan language to expedite permit processing by streamline the review process. It also would modifies what Labrador calls broken and lengthy administrative appeals procedures by changing the process from a costly confrontational and bureaucratic nightmare for ranchers and land managers to a system that ensures environmental protection and allows grazing to continue where appropriate.” The Grazing Improvement Act of 2012 aim is to ensure grazing certainty and stability for America’s livestock producers and this representative from Idaho is working hard to make sure that happens.
