4-11 SS Alabama Rig

4-11 SS Alabama Rig

Imagine catching 5 bass with one cast. How could that possibly be? Is it like the old cartoon where a small fish gets eaten by a bigger fish which then gets eaten by a bigger fish and so on? I’ll have an answer in a minute.

Like every other person who has too much time on their hands I was looking through YouTube the other day and saw this guy in a bass boat reeling in 3 pretty good sized bass. You can hear his wife in the background cheering him on and encouraging him to pick up his line and show everybody his catch. Okay, time to come clean. He was using a lure called the Alabama Rig which was invented by Andy Poss. The Alabama rig is a lure that has a head with 5 separate wires, swivels and lures connected to it. It’s similar to an umbrella rig and is designed for casting and reeling in. The entire rig without hooks weighs less than 3/8 ounce. If rigged correctly the lures will not tangle.  The designers say it is Very easy to cast. You can fish it from top to bottom or for suspended fish.  Sportsman’s Warehouse fishing salesperson Rob Lengkeek: “We haven’t received the umbrella yet but that’s something a lot of people have been looking for. They call it the Alabama Rig where you have 5 fish basically follow the one fish and you have books on all of those. All the bass guys request it daily.”
