4-9 SS 1959 Muley's

An era where mule deer were so plentiful it was almost weird. Talk about the good old days. Professional guide, outdoorsman, and founder of the Eastman Hunting publications talks about a time after World War II where Mule deer hunting in an area near Jackson Hole, Wyoming was almost limitless. Mike tells the story from an historical perspective and it is just delightful to hear his recollections: “Back in the 50s was the golden age of mule deer hunting because people came back from the war, everybody had been at war, and they had an aggressive program for killing predators and so the mule deer population throughout the West was just exploding. We were living in Jackson Hole and hunted mule deer there, they had some of the best genetics for big trophy mule deer in the West. My dad wanted to hunt down in Pinedale because that area was a basin and all the mule deer would pile in there in the winter. We heard there were thousands and thousands of deer there. So in 1959 we went hunting down there. My dad and I looked up and all of the ridges and hills and valleys and everywhere it looked like ants. Thousands of deer and they had a 3 deer area down there where you could take 3 mule deer bucks on one license.”
