Jo Lynne Seufer is the Risk Management Specialist from the USDA/Risk Management Agency in Spokane and she sent me this notice to announce a women in agriculture conference coming up this Saturday. The title of the conference is Women Farms & Food and just below the title this statement was made: Women face unique challenges in growing viable businesses in farming and ranching. They also learn differently than men and like to connect with other women farmers in sharing experiences, knowledge and resources.I called up Jo Lynne and broached the subject: “I grew up in the days of male chauvinist pig, ever cognizant of that, Women face unique challenges in growing viable businesses in farming and ranching. They also learn differently than men and like to connect with other women farmers in sharing experiences, knowledge and resources. What does that mean? That is interesting isn’t it? That was put out by Washington State University. We have 373 people signed up. I think next Saturday is going to be a really good program but I agree, that is kind of a different statement isn’t it? Yes. But give me an overview of what this program is. Are women increasingly getting into agriculture, I then making different contributions? Yes. I am just looking at our region here. Idaho, Oregon and Washington, women farmers are very much entering into this sector. The sign up we have gotten for this conference is overwhelming. We printed 300 and the next day we had to print 50 more.
