03/08/05 New Zealand wines, Part one

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today we are continuing with part two of a three part series about the wines of New Zealand. As we discussed yesterday, during the past twenty years New Zealand has had one of the fastest growing wine industries in the world. It seems the more consumers that taste their Sauvignon Blanc the greater the demand. Across the two islands that comprise New Zealand, with its cool maritime climate, there are 10 wine regions each with its own wine personality and all are producing expressly unique wines. Marlborough and Nelson are most famous for their Sauvignon Blanc. Marlborough, perhaps the most reknown, has alluvial soils and amazing depths of gravelly soil, and produces wines with unique character. Nelson also makes wonderfully mineral packed Chardonnays that are not to difficult to find. Just read the labels or ask. If you are a fan of Pinot Noir keep an eye out for the wines from Wellington region of New Zealand. Tough, I don't see them as often as I would like, there are some very interesting wines being made from Pinot Gris that are worth taking a chance on. Your local wine merchant may be able to order a greater selection of these wines for you just ask. Remember to send your wine questions to linda at vine to wine dot net and join us tomorrow as we continue our series about the wines of New Zealand. Thank you for listening on today's Vine to Wine.
