12-8 IAN Wine Pride

If you want to put yourself on the map, if you want to help move some product, you have to be a great salesperson, marketer and promoter. How does that apply to Idaho wines?

Moya Shatz is the executive director of the Idaho Wine commission. She has seen our local wines get quite a bit of positive attention of late and here she is to tell us about all of the exciting news. “I think it’s that the wineries are starting to come into their own. They are learning very quickly. Wine Press Northwest just came into the Idaho Wine competition and I was really surprised by who some of the winners were. There is a total of 127 medals and we had 170 wines judged. It’s nice to know that there are that many wines that are worth getting the medal. It is so great to see that these wineries are honing their skills. I knew it was just a matter of time. You bang your head on the wall and try and convince people that the wine is actually pretty good. Eventually, if you do it enough, they will hear you. You have to put in your time and Idaho has been putting in their time. It is now starting to pay off. Is it that Idaho wineries are getting better or is it that you have been screaming from the mountaintop? Both.
