On today’s Open Range we’re back with Vaugh Wilson artist and author of the award winning new book Tell Me About That Horse. We’re going to talk about a quality of special horses that emerged as a theme when he interviewed celebrities for his new book. Be it Larry Mahan’s Sheba or Charlie Daniels Fat Gal, Vaughn you discovered a common denominator in the horses that made the pages of your new book, Tell Me About that Horse that you call ”try. So how would you define “try” to our listeners.
Vaughn Wilson
“You can almost see it in their eyes they are willing to do what ever you ask them to do, no matter what the cost. They trust you completely and for a horse to trust us in the first place (for people that  don’t know much about or understand horses) they are prey animals so when a horse trust us it’s up to them, it’s not up to us, it has to be up to them because they are prey and they regard us as  predators. A lot of people don’t stop to think about that and so when you see a horse with “try” he is willing to give you what ever he’s got because he trusts you. That’s what try is. Thanks Vaughn, for me Barbaro and Secretariat define “try” so does the great bucking horse Spring Fling whom rodeo announcer Bob Tallman reminisced about in your new book. In fact for those of you out there who have been blessed to have owned a horse with “try” if you go to the www.tellmeaboutthathorse.com website you can share your horses story with others.
