9-23 IAN Feedback
c I interviewed Gov. otter in August of 2009 about plans for the future in terms of water storage. Here’s the interview. “What are the plans for the future? More dams, more reservoirs? We are studying several locations in the Galloway Dam which is the Weiser site as one of those. We could back up 900,000 acre/feet of water in that one reservoir where the entire Boise River system is a million. Not only that, David, it’d be cool water. So the 425,000 acre/feet that we have to dedicate to fish flows, would be cooler and we wouldn’t have the thermal problems we’ve got with the water warming up in the Hell’s Canyon complex and those at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake Rivers. There’s a lot of great thing that could happen if we could go forward with the Galloway Dam.”
The other day I received an e-mail reacting to that interview 2 years ago. I feel compelled to read it to you. I've been on several irrigation boards in Weiser for over 44 years and believe there are several local concerns that need to be addressed regarding the proposed dam site. One of the major irrigation districts in the Weiser area has not been included in the study and believe other areas of concern have not been adequately addressed. I would sincerely like a copy of the report so that I could go through it with a fine tooth comb. Currently I am against the construction and have been for nearly 40 years because of some comments made early on in the study. I feel there are too many omissions that need to be addressed.
