NW Ranchers Have Hearts As Big As Texas
I am proud to say our northwest Ranchers have hearts as big a as Texas. I’m Susan Allen than you for joining me for today’s Open Range. My how ones life can change in the course of a few weeks! Earlier this month Suzanne De Laurentis was a guest on Open Range. Remember, she was an accomplished horse trainer who co-founded the Imagine –a -Horse trick training method and has trained horses for both for Hollywood and a host of celebrities. It’s been well publicized that singer Sheryl Crow’s black and white tobiano Lady C was trained by Sue and since Sheryl has donated Lady C as Ambassador Horse, the mare now resides at Sue and husband Allen Pogues Red Horse Ranch in Texas when she is not performing. Its difficult for us here in the Northwest in to comprehend the devastation wild fires have wrought on the Texas ranching and equestrian communities but I received an e-mail from Sue earlier this week saying the fire was within a mile of their facility and she was simply exhausted having evacuated over 50 horses. So naturally I asked for prayers for Sue and my other Texan friends on Open Range’s Facebook page and within an hour a Harney County Oregon Rancher offered to help anyone in Texas with displaced horses, stating he had pasture for sixty animals. Then another Rancher on 2500 acres with a 20 stall barn posted his number also volunteering to help. One fellow even offered to haul horses back from Texas. I was overwhelmed but not surprised by the generosity of our Northwest ranching community and ask that if you have ideas to help our Texan neighbors save livestock and horses please post to “Susan Allen Open Range’s facebook page .
