Results from CRP general sign up 41

Farm and Ranch June 20, 2011 The USDA’s Farm Service Agency has released the results of 41st general sign up that was held earlier this year for the Conservation Reserve Program. Acting FSA Deputy Administrator Juan Garcia says;

Garcia: “3.8 million acres were offered under sign up 41 and 2.8 million acres were considered acceptable for enrollment.”

That puts enrollment in CRP to almost 30 million acres. By law enrollment is limited to 32 million acres.

Results in the Pacific Northwest for the sign up were; in Idaho 540 of 661 offers were accepted covering just over 87-thousand acres. Oregon had 410 of 450 offers accepted on about 99-thousand acres. In Washington 767 offers were accepted out of 851 for 93-thousand acres.

The accepted acres in Oregon and Idaho are less than the acreage in CRP contracts that expire this fall. In Washington the accepted acreage is slightly more than expiring acreage.

FSA’s Garcia reminds us what landowners get for enrolling in CRP.

Garcia: “And these particular producers that enroll in CRP plant long-term conserving use covers and then in return the Farm Service Agency provides these participants rental payments and even cost-share payments to assist them in planting those long-term conservation covers.”
