Field Days

Farm and Ranch June 13, 2011 Several field day tours coming up in the Pacific Northwest this week. The Pendleton Ag Research Center Field Day is tomorrow. That’s hosted by Oregon State University and the USDA Agricultural Research Service. Registration is at 7:45 a.m. and tours begin at 8:10. The tour features 12 presentations by scientists which will include spring planting of winter canola, evaluation of wheat varieties regarding stripe rust and enhancing control of downy brome with pre-emergence herbicides.

The following day, Wednesday the 15th, will be the Sherman Station Field Day. Attendees should gather at the Sherman County High School near Moro, Oregon at 7 a.m. The tour begins at 7:25. The will be ten presentations by scientists, some similar to those at Pendleton but also including the potential for Beyond herbicide to carry over and injure non-Clearfield wheat and the potential of biodiesel from eastern Oregon oilseed crops.

This Thursday June 16, is the 95th Annual Lind Field Day at Washington State University’s Lind Dryland Research Station. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with tours beginning at nine a.m. WSU agronomist Bill Schillinger says among the plot stops is one on drought tolerant wheat and a demonstration of a new deep-furrow drill prototype.

Schillinger: “The new drill that we are currently working in the shop is the HZ type where we have the boot stuck between the between the split packer.”

All of these field days have hosted lunch and pesticide certification credits available.
