Potato industry gets a trucking 101 seminar
Washington Ag Today June 10, 2011 Over two dozen farming operations were represented at a recent Washington State Potato Commission and Washington State Patrol sponsored trucking 101 course. Matt Harris, the Commission’s Director of Governmental Relations called it a refresher seminar. Harris: “To look at trucks used and to make sure we are on top of safety inspections and how those inspections occur, and also looking at just traffic safety, the rules of the road.” Harris says pertinent laws were reviewed at the seminar. Harris: “To make sure we are compliance with those laws. So making sure that we are correctly using dyed diesel. Making sure that we understand CDL requirements of drivers, medical cards. So, it was a great program for the industry.” The trucking safety seminar was held in Moses Lake but Harris says there could be others. Harris: “We will work with the State Patrol and our industry to see if we need to take this to other locations to make sure that growers have the opportunity to come in and discuss what is viable for the trucking industry so that we are in harvest our trucks are the safest trucks on the road.” Harris says the Commission had great cooperation from the State Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Division.
