Generous Cattle Producers
It would be interesting to compare the generosity of the varying ag sectors Are for example, grape, lettuce or onion growers involved industry movements that provide for the needy? I imagine so but I would hedge my bet that America’s ranchers rise to the top of the philanthropic agricultural mix. I’m Susan Allen this is Open Range, stay tuned for our cattle producer’s role in the Japan relief effort. Thanks to the generosity of our nation’s cattle and pork producers more than 10,000 displaced Japanese citizen’s have received meals with meat since the earthquake following the tsunami. Cattle producers involved with the U.S. Meat Export Federation have partnered with the Japanese food industry to insure that residents of heavily damaged areas have hot meals with a good serving of either beef or pork. Earlier this month 200 senior citizens in crowed temporary housing expressed immense gratitude towards America after their first taste of meat since the disaster. State Beef councils have jumped in to help fund the Meat Federation’s effort that to date has raised over $540,000 to provide American raised beef and pork. Sam Harada the senior director for the Meat Export Federation recently stated that there are still thousands of displaced people in the coastal areas needing meals, but the people we are helping are thankful that their friends in America, and I’ll add cattle producers, (great ambassadors for us all) have not forgotten them.
