3-15 IAN Otter on Pot 2
As Western states increasingly look at the issue of legalizing marijuana, there are people lining up strongly on both sides of the issue. States all around Idaho have approved it for medical purposes but, as we all know, presription drugs can be used for illicit purposes. I’m David Sparks and we’ll talk to Governor Otter on this subject next.
“I'm not a proponent. I used to be an orderly at St. Alphonsus and got my doctorate in bedpan, Excuse me that’s just one of my favorite lines. You know I watched people suffer, I knew they were going to die and in many cases we didn’t have the medical facilities that we have today. They came into the hospital to terminate. I watched them suffer and I watched them put them through a drug regimentation that was not only very debilitating they lost a lot of functions of their body because of the medication that was trying to sedate the pain. But when you hear so many people in the medical field say that being able to use marijuana will ease the pain at a much less cost providing the same result and that is a peaceful, painless existence, I can understand both sides part existence so I can understand both sides but is it the right thing to do? I don't think so.”
