Passing FTA's & Thank A Farmer

Passing FTA’s & Thank A Farmer. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus and Ranking Republican Orrin Hatch have told U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk that the South Korean Trade Agreement is unlikely to be ratified, unless it's paired, or closely linked to Panama and Columbia FTAs. Washington Congressman Doc Hastings agrees.

HASTINGS: What’s disturbing is he’s talking about free trade and I certainly support the South American Free Trade Agreement but also support the Columbia Free Trade Agreement and the Panama Free Trade Agreement. This President talks about free trade but only apparently under certain conditions wants to send up South Korea. I think all three of these trade agreements should be ratified and I think there are votes in both houses if the President would just send them up to the Congress.

The Director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Katy Coba, is challenging everyone to thank farmers and ranchers for what they produce, but also challenge Oregonians especially to take the opportunity to get to know agriculture better. And she says the praise should come 365 days a year. National Ag Week runs March 13 through 19th with National Ag Day slated for the 15th.
