Merrigan in the Northwest & Mexico Tariff Update. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan spent some time in both Portland and Seattle this week to highlight the USDA's 'Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food' initiative. She talked about USDA’s investment in farming.

MERRIGAN: What the general public needs to understand is that our investments in farms and working lands is a public benefit that they get because it means cleaner water it means cleaner air. Environmentalists and farmers – they’re the same guy.

President Obama has announced a possible deal has been reached on a way to end the trucking dispute between the U.S. and Mexico.

OBAMA: I’m especially pleased to announce that after nearly 20 years we finally have found a clear path to resolving the dispute over trucking between our two countries. I look forward to consulting with Congress and moving forward in a way that strengthens the safety of cross-border trucking, lifts tariffs on billions of dollars of U.S. goods, expands our exports to Mexico and creates jobs on both sides of the border.

Washington Congressman Doc Hastings said he was pleased that the President is finally actively working to reach a resolution, but urged him to complete the process quickly stating that Washington state growers and processors simply cannot afford any more delays.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
