Pink Lady Juice

Pink Lady Juice. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

I love apple juice. The fresher, the better. Now I have another choice to make according to Alan Taylor with Pink Lady America.

TAYLOR: A new one is the sales of Pink Lady brand juice which is happening this week at the Haagen Food & Pharmacy stores and Top Food Drug in 30 of their stores in the Pacific Northwest and we’re extremely happy about that happening.

Pink Lady apples have branded themselves with sliced apples at McDonalds and of course Valentine promotions tied to the apples.  Taylor says the juice is unique.

TAYLOR: You’d have to say that Pink Lady juice is very, very different just like the apple is. The apple itself is different from other apples and so it’s juice is sweet tart like the apple and has a very distinctive flavor. And it’s also being sold as an unfiltered non-sweetened juice so 100% natural.

The juice offers Northwest producers another market for their product. Taylor talks about the current promotion of the juice.

TAYLOR: Valentine’s Day is coming up and this really fits very, very well. The timing just happened although Haagen wanted to do this for Valentine’s Day and they were able to kind of rush it to market to back up what we do with Pink Lady apples during the Valentine’s Day period which is a key shipping period for us. In fact last week we shipped 130-thousand cartons which I think has got to be a record.
