This year’s Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers Annual Meeting and Trade Show will include a lot of good information and seminars that might help your bottom line. Christine Love, Industrial Services Manager for Washington State University Extension Energy Program says wineries can see significant savings just by improving your compressed air system.

LOVE: The fundamentals part of the training assumes that there is a basic knowledge of compressed air systems but it really is at the fundamental level and will help them to establish a compressed air leak program, identify inappropriate uses of compressed air, calculate the cost of compressed air in their facility; those kinds of things.

Inappropriate uses of compressed air can be as simple as using air to clean off a workstation when a broom could be used. You typically consider air a free commodity but compressed air uses energy to build up a supply of air.

LOVE: Leaks are a big thing to be aware of with your compressed air system because a tiny, tiny, tiny little pinhole of a leak over a period of time can add up to tens of thousands of dollars.

The Wine Grape Growers meeting is February 8 through the 11th in Kennewick.

LOVE: We’ve also got in my opinion one of the best compressed air instructors in the nation that’s going to be teaching this class. We’re hoping there’ll be some interest and lots of folks that want to sign up for it. It really is a great opportunity. In addition to opening up to attendees at the conference, anybody that wants to attend the training can come so whether or not they’re attending the conference, whether or not they are a winery they can participate in this training.
