11-30 IAN Moose Safety

11-30 IAN Moose Safety

Traffic on rural roads including farmers, and their farm equipment to be made safer from big game traffic. I’m DS

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game plans to capture elk and moose in eastern Idaho starting in December as part of a 3-year study to determine migration corridors with the ultimate goal of reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions. I talked with Fish and Game’s Daryl Meints about the program. “Our role as animal capture experts is to go up, capture and deploy radio GPS collars on elk and moose from Ashton Hill to Island Park along Hwy 20 and that will take place in December when animals make their move. Money came from ITD and blossomed from there in making attempts down the road to reduce motorized vehicle collisions with wildlife during that corridor and this will help us then identify where these nimals are making their movements not only from a timing but location aspect and try to figure out why they’re selecting those points to cross and what can be done in the future.”
