Succession Planning

Succession Planning

Succession Planning. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. What happens to your family when you head to that great pasture in the sky? Dan Fazio with Washington Farm Bureau says they have an upcoming seminar to discuss succession planning. FAZIO: One of the key parts of our annual meeting is a 5-hour workshop on creating a succession plan; succession planning for your business, your legacy, your farm. How to move your farm from one generation to the other and that's kind of part one in our plan so come to Yakima on Monday, November 15th. If you can't attend the 5-hour seminar, Fazio says there are other opportunities to get this information. FAZIO: Part two is really interesting as well. We have 8 estate planning seminars throughout the state so that's in December and January. People should go to our website to find out about those and what really we're working on with those estate planning workshops is the impending change in estate tax laws. I think most of your listeners know that the estate tax laws are going to change on January 1, 2011. Fazio says this is important information since there most likely will be some changes. FAZIO: Either Congress will get together and they'll keep the favorable estate tax laws that we have or more likely they'll not do anything so all the estate tax exemptions will expire and everyone's pretty much going to have an estate tax problem on January 1, 2011.
