Crystal Lake Wines

Crystal Lake Wines. I'm Greg Martin with today's Line On Agriculture. A long time ago in a galaxy...no wait...wrong story...well it was a weekend getaway for some campers who had to contend with a guy named Jason. It was 30 years ago Adrienne King played the character of Alice Hardy in the horror classic, Friday the 13th. But what does that have to do with agriculture? Fast forward 30 years. KING: We're all drinking wine from the same Valley View Winery which is pretty amazing. I was a wine club member here for over 4 years before I got involved with Crystal Lake Wines and my art on the label and it was just one of those things. It just kind of happened, it evolved. King and her husband wound up moving from the hubbub of Los Angeles to the Rogue Valley in southwestern Oregon 6 years ago where she discovered the Valley View Winery owned by Mike and Mark Wisnovsky. KING: You know when you belong to a winery you get to know the owner well and you get to know the winemaker and you get to know their wines really well and being a fan of Valley View Winery when they admitted to me – they said they got up enough nerve, the two youngest brothers, they said we're big Friday the 13th fans, we know it's the 30th anniversary and let's do something special. The result was a special release of the private Crystal Lake label featuring a chardonnay, cabernet and syrah. The label art is a scene from the movie done by King. This kind of marriage between wines and entertainment has worked out very well. KING: It was just almost a no-brainer because the fans basically resurrected me from the dead about 7 years ago right as I was moving up here. I just have reawakened in terms of the entertainment industry if that makes any sense and I came up with my art, my acting and now my wine is my three passions and was able to kind of throw them together. A run in with a stalker back in the 80's drove King away from the entertainment industry for years but she is now very excited to bring this wine to her fans and the general public. KING: For me it was about finding a good price point where my fans could truly appreciate fine wine. We've sort of elevated their taste and now they're reordering and it's wonderful. They can call me up at the 1-800 number here or go online but if they call up here I'll take their order and we'll talk about Friday the 13th a little bit and then I'll write their favorite line or whatever on the bottle but the wine is really quite wonderful. Visit their website at valleyviewwinery.com. More tomorrow. That's today's Line On Agriculture. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
