10-19 FB Farm Road Safety
Harvest season is underway for ag producers all over the state. This is David Sparks and we’ll hear why rural drivers need to be cautious in a minute. Last year I did a public service announcement asking drivers to be mindful that farmers were hard at work and rural roads were full of farm equipment. I’m back with local farmer Sid Freeman with a repeat message: “My name is Sid Freeman, I’m a Canyon County farmer and last year we did a PSA asking folks to watch out for farm machinery on the highways and asked them to be very patient and let the farmers get they’re work done and so far it seems to have worked. I haven’t heard of any fatalities this year and hopefully it will stay that way. We just ask you to please watch out for the farm vehicles out on the roadways, be patient and let the farmers know that you appreciate what they’re doing for you.”
Arledge Hay official Kevin Koonce warns that, as an example, choppers can weigh up to 22 tons, and what’s so dangerous about them, is not just their size, but how many blind spots they have.
