Stan Boyd of the Idaho Wool Growers Association has some shots to take.
We’re all familiar with the fight over domestic sheep grazing public lands and how Scientists and forest officials have concluded bighorns can contract deadly lung diseases when they encounter domestic sheep. The Forest Service estimates the plan will result in 28 livestock jobs lost, while recreation could increase. Not so fast says Stan Boyd, Executive Director of the Idaho Wool Growers Association. He says the sheep industry is fighting a war against its own government and talks about sheep rancher Mick Carlson’s family who’s had land since 1928: “Mick’s got 6000 acres of deeded ground that runs right down the Salmon River and if he does get forced off of it he’ll sell it by the square foot in the form of condos. He ays if the government doesn’t want me to grow sheep, I’ll grow condos. So your bighorn sheep habitat’s gonna have million dollar condos on it right down the Salmon River.”
