Livestock price index main driver in the latest report. I'm Greg Martin, this is Market Line.
An over three per cent increase in the prices livestock and dairy producers received in May helped increase the overall agricultural price index for the month. USDA's Rod Bain has a look.
BAIN: The over 2% boost in USDA's May agricultural prices report from April was due in part to an over 3% increase in prices received by livestock producers during that time period. In fact the main livestock price index surpassed the previous high for the month set in 2008 fueled by an 80 cent boost in cattle prices from April and a $5 .80 jump for hogs in May. Broiler prices were also up from this time last month.
The markets were closed yesterday for the holiday so a quick recap of the Friday close checking on the markets...On Friday Chicago July corn was 25 to 28-3/4 cents per cwt lower than Thursday's noon bids.
