Apple Grants

Apple Grants. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. The Washington Apple Education Foundation Farmworker/Ag Worker Education Committee selected eleven recipients this spring to receive grants according to Jennifer Witherbee, Executive Director of WAEF. WITHERBEE: These are grants that we award to existing programs in the tree fruit growing district that are assisting farmworker families succeed scholastically. In total nearly $40,000 was awarded through the program this year. WITHERBEE: There are 4 priorities our committee looks at when they are reviewing the grant application. They want to make an impact on reducing the high school dropout rate and improving higher level education attainment for students that are considered "at risk," improving long term learning outcomes by exposing children to educational opportunities pre kindergarten. Increase economic self-sufficiency and further generational upward mobility and improve cross cultural communications through English language literacy. For a list of the grant recipients or for more information on applying for next year's grants visit their website at www.waef.org. The new grant cycle will begin after September 1st of this year. Completed applications must be returned no later than March 15, 2011. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
