PETA at A Slaughterhouse

PETA at A Slaughterhouse

Vermont was one of the first states to approve gay marriage and now they’re trying to put into law that animal activists be present at livestock auctions and processing plants. I’m David Sparks and I’ll be right back with the story. It’s getting to the point in this country that I’m thinking maybe we should all start looking around…to move. Listen to this. The Vice Chairman of the Vermont State Agriculture Committee has introduced legislation mandating the presence of the Humane Society of the United States or some similar groups at livestock auctions and processing plants. A representative from such organizations would be present to observe a slaughterer, packer or stockyard operator when engaged in the practice of bleeding or slaughtering livestock. Here’s Steve Kopperud, Founder of the Animal Agriculture Alliance: “This is the first time that I’ve ever seen a state even contemplating the notion of turning over the fate of an industry to a humane organization. If this inspector saw something they deemed as a violation they can get an automatic injunction to shut the plant down for as long as 30 days” Pending the outcome of an investigation violators could be fined up to $5000 and imprisoned for up to 3 months.
