The BIG Wine List

The BIG Wine List

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Have you ever found yourself dining in one of those restaurants with a wine list that rivals the size of a phone book? Today we are going to identify some ways to easily tackle that big ole wine list.

When you sit down to dine and you are delivered a massive volume that is said to be the wine list - don’t panic. Just take a deep breath and make a few quick calculations. Determine how much wine you will need to order.  What number of people are you dining with? You will need approximately half a bottle of wine per person. Now you know how much to order during the course of the evening. Now taking into consideration everyone’s preferences will you be ordering red or white or perhaps a bottle of each? Then go to the list and see how it’s organized. If you are ordering red wine then go to the red section. If it is organized by country go to one that you are comfortable with let’s say Domestic (wines from the United States) now look for wines  you are familiar with or wines that are in your price range and narrow it down to a few that you feel comfortable with. Ask you server or the wine steward to make a recommendation from the wines you narrowed it down to. You could also save yourself any anxiety by simply asking for help to begin with. After all it is their job. If you don’t like the wine that you ordered simply chalk it up to and experience and don’t buy it again. Unless of course the wine is bad then by all means have the server check it and send it back for another. Most of all enjoy yourself! And thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
