Party Punches

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Today we are going to discuss holiday punches and how they are made.

Yesterday we talked about warm spiced wine at the holidays. Another item that seems to dominate is the punch bowl. I prefer punch made with sparkling wines and since cranberries dominate the season why not go in that direction? Make a base of cranberry juice, Rose’s lime and fresh lime juice, and then add a couple of bottles of sparkling wine all crowned with floating frozen fresh cranberries and lime slices and you have a festive, and not to sweet, bowl of holiday cheer. If you like the idea of a more flavorful punch start with your favorite liqueur. Whether it be orange, raspberry, peach, or cherry, a cup of your favorite fruit liqueur combined with two bottles of Brut sparkling wine can make a delightful punch. For a more tropical feel use frozen guava or passion fruit juice and make the juice using sparkling wine instead of water and float slice oranges and limes in the bowl. The possibilities are endless. And keep in mind these can be used for an evening party or brunch.
