Hastings on Dams & Belgian Dairy Protest

Hastings on Dams & Belgian Dairy Protest.  I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

The latest report by the Obama Administration regarding protecting the NW salmon includes the possibility of breaching 4 Snake River dams as a “last resort.” Washington Congressman Doc Hastings had some strong words on the subject.

HASTINGS: Dam breaching back on the table, even as a last resort, I think is a terrible idea for several reasons. It hasn’t been on the table for the last 8 years and as a result of it not being on the table all of the groups involved came up with a plan in order to manage the Columbia River. Now I fear that these broad agreements may have trouble staying together. So that’s the first one. Secondly, if this is the last resort then why does the administration say immediately the Army Corps of Engineers start looking at what may go into dam breaching?

On Wednesday, Belgian farmers driving about 300 hundred tractors, many pulling honey wagons and sprayed 790-thousand gallons of fresh milk onto their fields as they expressed their fury over low milk prices they say are bankrupting them. Milk farmers' groups says world prices have sunk so much they are having to sell milk at half their production costs, leaving more and more farmers unable to pay their bills. The dumped milk represented about one day’s production in the region.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange Report.
