Wrong Number

Wrong Number

In our duties here at aginfonet, we try and follow leads on stories no matter how far ranging they are. Sure, it’s a no-brainer here in Idaho to do stories that are relevant to dairy, wheat, beef, sugar beets, hay, hops, wine, water rights …it goes on forever (and if I neglected to mention a few of you great folks…my bad, there’s only so much time in a broadcast)

But this story took me to a desert making contest at the University of Idaho’s Agriculture and Life Sciences Department so it’s an ag story but absolutely takes the cake. I got wind of a University of Idaho senior food science student who led a U of I student team to first prize in the nation's top food development competition. I thought I’d give the winner a call and do an interview. So I get out my Idaho Agriculture Directory, turn to the University of Idaho Ag section and look quickly for the various departments. Apparently it was too quickly because I see Food Science listed and call the number. Listen to the call. “Sample receiving…Hi, is this food science? This is Toxicology. OK. I’m sorry I got the wrong number. Allright. Thank you.”

I look back at the directory and believe it or not I didn’t mis-dial. The Department I dialed was Food Science  AND Toxicology under the same number.
