Point-Counterpoint

OK! We heard last week from hay farmer Don Hale who also happens to be President of Idaho Hay & Forage Association that quote “everybody’s hay has  been rained on for two weeks and that’s no good for anything. For most of us, our hay’s ready to cut but with this rain that we’re having and still in the forecast to have for another week or so, how do you cut? How do you get it down and dry?”

Yesterday from University of Idaho Extension crop horticulturist Wayne Jones in Bonneville County: “It’s a mixed bag with the dry land growers, this is just pure gold coming out of the sky…getting irrigated for free for two weeks in a row.”

Point…Counter point. And to break the tie, we weigh in with the President of the Eastern Idaho Grain Producers, Matt Gellings: “If you’re a hay grower, then this weather is probably too wet for us right now. It is going to hurt our quality. A grain grower, we’re loving it. The dry farm guys up here, it’s the best wheat crop they’ve ever had, it just looks great and a lot of that’s been this rain.
