Yesterday we learned that bio-mass can be turned into ethanol.
(Sturdevant) "Bio-mass is described as any plant material that a lot of people describe as non-food." That’s Jim Sturdevant, Director of Project Liberty, a bio-mass-to-ethanol effort in Scotland, South Dakota.
(Sturdevant) “Equipment companies are now saying to farmers is together let’s collect corn cobs along with the corn grain. The Dept. of Energy and the USDA have estimated that there’s over one billion tons of available bio-mass in the U.S. alone.”
Too good to be true? Some facts for nay-sayers!
(Sturdevant) “It requires much, much less BTU’s to create ethanol than it does to create a gallon of gasoline. There is right now in our nation a 10% regulatory cap which means a gallon of gasoline can be mixed with 10% ethanol. That can go higher without any kind of detrimental effect to engines and automobile companies are with us on this…we just need to increase that cap which will increase then the demand for ethanol which will help the whole ethanol industry.”
Does the ethanol burn cleaner than fossil fuels?
(Sturdevant) “It does. It burns much cleaner. Even a 10% blend of ethanol in automobiles in the U.S. has the same effect as removing millions of cars from the highways.
Imagine making your next payment on the pickup with money you made on the fuel to go in it.
