Wind Turbines

Wind Turbines

(Gerdes) “Most of them know their wind better than anybody but they’ve actually got the perfect setup for it because they have the wide open land where they can get a good steady un-turbulated wind and that’s what you’re after.”

That’s not code-speak, that’s common sense coming from Trever Gerdes, owner of Mountainview Windpower in Rexburg, Idaho. Even though the state’s energy czar has removed his support for wind energy, there are many reasons for Idaho farmers to buy into this technology.

(Gerdes) “We bring grid type wind turbines which allows farmers, ranchers the opportunity to gather power out of the wind and turn it into their grid, cutting their power bill down. We’re seeing savings of $60/month off of our little units on up to $1200/month on the bigger units. Plus it’s increasing the value of your farm.”

The price for these wind turbines isn’t cheap but Gerdes says that help is available.

(Gerdes) “The USDA, there’s some different ag grants available…they’re starting to getmore and more tax incentives.”
