An American Hero 2

(Ward) I’d be sleeping bareback on him looking at the stars and my grandparents always wondered what the heck I was doing.” As a young boy on his parents ranch in Shoshone, Idaho,  Vaughn Ward was probably dreaming about what he might become.  Surely he couldn’t have predicted under those twinkling stars that one day U.S. Senator Mike Crapo would address the President of the United States with the following words: “Mr. President, I wish to recognize the valor, leadership, and service of MAJ Vaughn L. Ward, a third-generation Idahoan who grew up working on his family’s farm in southern Idaho. On October 22, 2007, Major Ward received the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device for heroic achievement in combat while serving as a Marine Rifle Company Commander in Fallujah, Iraq, from March to October of 2006.”

Major Ward had served as a Marine and returned to BSU to continue his education when…(Ward) “911 occurred and I knew that I couldn’t not be a part of what was going on. I had lost quite a few friends in Iraq and was continuing to lose more and decided I wanted to go back as a Marine.”

As you heard from Senator Crapo he fought on the front lines leading his men with honor. He has now returned to his beloved Idaho with an ambitious future.

(Ward) I am very interested in remaining involved in helping the future of this country. I have served it in harm’s way and I am very interested in continuing to be involved politically now.
