Let's Talk About the Weather

Let’s Talk About The Weather. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Ok, so Mother Nature keeps teasing us. After a couple of really nice 70+ days, the bottom falls out again and I’m back to wearing sweaters. NW Ag Meteorologist Tim Creek looks at what we can expect for the rest of the month.

CREEK: The overall weather pattern into the NW looks like it’s going to continue to be somewhat active. I would say through about the 20th of the month and during that time frame we are going to see temperatures around average for this time of the year with a couple threats of scattered shower activity but we are going to see a situation that we’ve just seen where we go from below average to above average, maybe back to below average. And again this should be through about the next 10 days or so through maybe the 20th of the month. Now I am seeing signs that we will see a more stable warmer weather pattern developing during the last 10 days or so of April.

And of course it is the time of year to once again start looking at frost conditions.

CREEK: In terms of frost temperatures or critical conditions for the overnight hours, we are going to have some concerns but they’re not going to be real strong ones or let’s just say they’re not going to be persistent ones. It looks like especially due to the slow start to the frost season that we are not going to have a lot of nights where we are going to have to worry about protection but there will be some periods of time, I think early next week would be a time frame where there’s going to be much more concern for some frost protection being needed for a night or two.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
