Slow Decision & Rescinding a Rule. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

We reported earlier that the EPA was working on upping the ethanol blend from 10 to 15% which would be good news but the down side to that is the length of time it may take to make that decision, maybe as much as a year. Bob Dineen with the Renewable Fuels Association says it needs to be revised up.

DINEEN: I’m not smart enough to know if 20% is the right number or 15% but I darn well know that more than 10% can be used in vehicles can be used in vehicles all across the country today and it will help to stimulate more demand, more renewable fuel use and that’s exactly what we need today.

Tests are being made as to whether higher blends would cause any damage to car engines and things like chainsaws.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has rescinded a rule that prohibited farmers who lease federal land from receiving payments under the Direct and Counter-cyclical Program on federal land with base acres. The Secretary said - terminating base acres on federally-owned cropland would have hurt farmers across the United States and eroded the safety net for farmers and ranchers.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange Report.
