11/13/08 Field day at the farm

Class is in session but today the classroom is the Swore Farm in Pocatello. Farm Bureau members like Rhonda Barfuss give their time to the school children who came to check out the farm. BARFUSS "This one is, this is how they grow when they start to grow. There is red wheat, white wheat and barley. Can you guys see the difference?" Carole Guthrie and other volunteers had more than one thousand fourth grade students at the Bannock County farm. GUTHERIE "And we're trying to teach them where their food and fiber is coming from and what the farmers goes through and perhaps what to do in order to produce that food in the grocery store for them." There were safety demonstrations showing the kids the dangers of electricity and power equipment. There was some roping. Even a petting zoo. And if you could answer the questions correctly, you can find you way through the corn maze. KIDS "This way Miss Greer." Add a little entertainment and the day on the farm was complete. LOSSIE "My name is Melissa Lossie. I'm going to whistle a song for you." Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
