Farm and Ranch October 24, 2008 Industry members and scientists interested in potato research are invited to participate in Washington Potato Commission research planning meetings being held next week October 29th through the 30th.
Commission Director of Research Andy Jensen says sessions at the Commission office in Moses Lake will focus on four research areas.
Jensen: "Those areas are plant protection which is like entomology, insect control, disease control, nematode control and weeds. Variety development and breeding is the second category. Those are both on the 29th. And then on the 30th we have a meeting to discuss crop management, which is like fertilizers, irrigation, potato seed. And then the 4th meeting is on other things that we just recently started doing research on and what we call economic, sustainable and value added research, which is things like new food products and nutrition related research, economics."
The meetings being at 8:30 a.m. on the 29th and nine a.m. on the 30th. Attending by video conference at various locations will also be possible. Contact Jensen for details on that at 509-765-8845.
