Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is very often the wine that is in my glass at the time because I simply do not waste my time drinking wine that I do not like. Today we are going to take a look at a wine from a Washington wine producer that has been and remains one of my all time favorites, Woodward Canyon and the wine is Dolcetto.
Many years ago when I was first learning about wine I fell in love with an Italian wine. It was Dolcetto. Dolcetto is a black wine grape variety widely grown in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy. The name means "little sweet one," though it is nearly always a dry wine. Dolcetto wines can be tannic and fruit driven with moderate levels of acidity. They are typically meant to be consumed one to two years after release. Woodward Canyon owner and winemaker Rick Small apparently has a passion for Dolcetto and we are the fortunate recipients of his inspiration and efforts. Although they produce many other stellar red wines I adore this wine especially at this time of the year. The fragrance is enchanting lots of focus on the fruit. Smooth, easy to drink, but with enough tenacity to hold up to food. It has a color that also makes it lovely to look at. I recommend it for any meal in the upcoming summer months. It is not always easy to find you will probably have to ask for it or place a special order. Also do not hesitate to call the winery or visit their website to track the Dolcetto down. I assure you it will be worth it. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at Vine to Wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
