Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today we are going to discuss finding the perfect wine writer for you.
A wine writer's evaluation is based upon their educated opinion. So when you read something calling your favorite wine thin - and lacking in any real character don't take it to heart. How does one know which wine is best? My answer is simple it's the wine that you enjoy the most. Believe in yourself and believe in your own mouth. But, if you want to rely on a wine critic to help you find wines that are new to you; then I suggest that you try out the recommendations of a few different writer's until you find one that you agree with most of the time. You see wine is very subjective and the only way that you will agree with a wine recommendation is if you enjoy it for yourself. If you follow a publication that gives wine scores, I would highly recommend that you continue down the list of wines that are below 90 points. There are some great wines in the 80's as well. The advantage of seeking out a wine writer with whom you agree, is that they have the opportunity to taste many wines, and you are the beneficiary of the information. However, remember to read the description of the style of wine first off and see if it even sounds like a wine that you would appreciate. Don't feel the least bit insulted when a wine writer doesn't agree with your tastes - just keep your wine glass open to new things and go searching for someone that you can follow for the right reason - because you have similar tastes in wine.
