07/30/08 Oregon Pinot Noir

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. I spent a long weekend in Oregon Wine Country and although it wasn't nearly enough time, I had a fabulous trip and was able to taste quite a few wines. You know Oregon Wine Country has really grown during the past two decades and it has somehow managed to maintain a character and a bit of mystery that is truly charming. Overall, I would say the wines are pretty darn good as well. Although Pinot Noir definitely is the focus there seems to be something for everyone. The Riesling and Muller Thurgau can be delightful and there are those who make lovely Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. However, I went there to taste Pinot Noir and I was not disappointed. Heading out of Portland just about 40 minutes and you will be closing in on Yamhill Newburg and McMinnville, towns surrounded by wineries and Tasting Rooms. Do get yourself a wine country map though as it will let you know which wineries are open to the public and what the hours are, and of course how to get there. If you are near Carlton Oregon, there are two things that you don't want to miss The Winemakers Studio Tasting Room and Cuneo Cellars. If you are there around lunchtime on the weekend be sure to get there early and have lunch at Cuneo. The food is so good that they sometimes run out no really, they do! Just get in the car and drive around Oregon wine country, you will not be disappointed. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
