06/18/08 New endowment to hightlight WSU's Lind Field Day

Farm and Ranch June 18, 2008 Washington State University's Lind Dryland Research Station Field Day is tomorrow June 19th. WSU agronomist Bill Schillinger says registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the field tours beginning at 9 a.m. Schillinger: "On tap this year Bob we have a total of seven field stops that includes winter wheat breeding, spring wheat breeding, fusarium crown rot resistance in wheat, winter pea production, which is the first time we have shown this at Lind. Also some extensive experiments on camelina as an oilseed alternative crop and an overview of the WSU Biofuels Project. At the noon program there will be a special tribute to Ed and Arlene Heineman who have established an endowment at Lind, which will be very important for the future of our station at Lind." Schillinger says Ed Heineman, who is 92 years old, is scheduled to be a the field day. The noon program, which follows a complimentary lunch will also include presentations by WSU administrators, state legislators, wheat industry leaders and new WSU faculty. An ice cream social will follow. Next week on June 25th it is WSU's Wilke Farm Field Day and on June 26th the USDA-ARS Palouse Conservation Field Station Field Day.
