The University of Idaho is hosting a pair of weed control tours next Tuesday June 17th at the Kimberly Research Center and the following day, the 18th, at Aberdeen. U of I's Don Morishita says they have plenty on the agenda, starting with sugarbeets.
MORISHITA "Several studies where we're looking at tank mixes of Roundup with other herbicides and then some other pesticides with like fungicides and insecticides. "
Growers can also see sugarbeet strip tillage versus conventional, learn about broadleaf control with Huskie, and wild oat control with Wolverine.
MORISHITA "And then another new one called Gold Sky. It will be coming on line they're anticipating registration I guess this fall. For next year growers will have access to it in their spring grains for weed control and that also looks very good."
There will be corn, potato and canola weed control projects to see and Morishita says they also have some insect control trials this year in wireworm and Colorado potato beetle. Potato and sugarbeets are the main theme for the Aberdeen tour which also starts at 830 AM and also ends with lunch.
