06/09/08 Pendleton Field Day

Farm and Ranch June 9, 2008 Tis the season for field days and tours. Tomorrow, June 10th, is the Pendleton Ag Research Center Field Day where registration begins at 7:45 a.m. and tours start at 8:30 a.m. Oregon State University's Don Wysocki highlights the tour stops. Wysocki: "We are going to have presentations on carbon sequestration. We have a number of trials on camelina. We'll discuss a regional project on camelina that is joint between WSU, OSU and Idaho and we have a number of those trials at our station. Jim Peterson, the OSU wheat breeder, is going to cover his breeding trials and the new lines that are coming along." There are also presentations on Fusarium Crown rot in wheat, herbicide evaluations and the use of green seek technology for nitrogen application. Wysocki: "Kind of an on-the-go nitrogen sensor and then you can tie that to an applicator and could actually top-dress wheat with what the sensor is seeing." There is a hosted lunch and Washington and Oregon CCA recertification credits will be available. The Sherman Station Field day is this Wednesday June 11th. Buses will depart the Sherman County High School in Moro at 8:10 a.m. At the conclusion of both the Pendleton and Sherman Field Days there will be informational meetings on the recommendations of the Oregon Wheat Industry Task Force, which includes a wheat assessment change. I'm Bob Hoff and that's the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
