No No-Match & Farm Bill Passed . I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.
You've no doubt heard that the Farm Bill was vetoed by the President and in the fracas it was found that a 34-page section was inadvertently left out of the bill. That means that the bill the President vetoed was not the complete bill but in the end both Houses wound up over-riding the Presidents veto to enact H.R. 2410, enacting 14 of the 15 Farm Bill titles into law. Senate Ag Chair Tom Harkin explained.
HARKIN: 14 of the 15 titles of this bill is now the law of the land and as Senator Chambliss said, we do have this one little glitch. I think probably an innocent mistake. Probably a clerical error that the Title 3 was not included and we'd deal with that at some other point. I don't know exactly when but that shouldn't be much of a problem since it
The Social Security Administration has decided not to send out a mass mailing of "no-match" letters to employers this year. According to an SSA spokesperson, "Since the issues related to adding the DHS insert are still tied up in court, they are opting out of this activity for the second year. They will continue to send letters to employees with discrepancies due to names or SSN's. And, if SSA does not have a good W-2 address for the employee, it will send this letter in care of the employer.
