04/18/08 An opportunity to serve on the Washington Potato Commission

Farm and Ranch April 18, 2008 Want to serve on the Washington State Potato Commission? Its Assistant Executive Director Karen Bonaudi says two at-large positions on the Commission are coming vacant and interested persons are asked to submit letters of interest. The Potato Commission has a fifteen member board, nine of which are growers elected by growers. Bonaudi says another member is appointed by the state Department of Agriculture, and then five at large positions are appointed by the growers on the board. Bonaudi: "To get those five at-large positions we ask for submissions from the industry. The at-large positions are open to growers. They are open to people who work in the industry either in packing sheds or processors, or people who have been involved in the industry throughout their lives otherwise. The Commission feels that this gives the board a range of expertise and knowledge and advice on how the Commission should dewal with its issues." Voting to fill two at-large positions with three-year terms will take place at the Potato Commission's quarterly meeting June 12th. Candidates should be prepared to attend that meeting and confirm their interest in serving in addition to submitting a short letter of intent to the Commission office.
