Flinchbaugh supports Hillary. This is the Northwest Farm and Ranch report. I'm Bob Hoff. Today's report next.
February 28, 2008 As far as Kansas State University economist Barry Flinchbaugh is concerned, the top three contenders in the Presidential race, Obama, Clinton and McCain, are the least knowledgeable about agriculture of any candidates he has seen. However, Flinchbaugh told agricultural reporters at a Bayer Crop Science Agricultural Issues Forum in Nashville this week, which of the three he thinks would be best for agriculture.
Flinchbaugh: "I think Hillary looks the best of the three candidates"
Flinchbaugh repeated what he told the Pacific Northwest Grains Conference a few months ago, that the New York Farm Bureau supported Hillary Clinton in her re-election to the U.S. Senate. The Kansas State economist says former Texas Congressman Charles Stenholm would likely be Hillary's Secretary of Agriculture, someone Flinchbaugh has described as one of the most knowledgeable people on agriculture around.
Flinchbaugh doesn't care for populists, which is how he categorizes Obama. He says McCain may have finally come around on renewable fuels, but when it comes to farm programs;
Flinchbaugh: "McCain spoke to CPAC a couple weeks ago to try and get the wing nuts on his side. And he said I talk straight and he mentioned, I went to Iowa and told them we don't need farm programs."
Flinchbaugh said agriculture's economic future looks good the next few years. He not so sure about its political future.
