Mary Lee Wood can be called the dean of Idaho 4-H. It all started in 1964 when she joined the University of Idaho Ag Extension. Through the years Mary Lee Wood invested her time in 4-H and rural outreach programs.
WOOD "Building common ground was based on a premise that if we get to know people as people rather than with the labels like environmentalists, pro labor or pro business or anti something that probably even though we don't agree on what needs to be done if we are committed to working on it that we can come up with some sort of a solution that's workable and livable."
Wood is concerned about shrinking ag extension budgets.
WOOD "They're bringing research based information to people and they have been reduced by half in number so a lot of people are not aware of what they can do and they have had to rely more on volunteers for the dissemination of information."
Mary Lee Wood Governor's Ag Award winner for education and advocacy.
