40 Under 40. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
Anyone in the tree fruit industry who knows West Mathison knows that he's quite ambitious. Mathison is the President and CEO of Stemilt Growers in Wenatchee and he's been a part of the industry for as long as he's been walking. Mathison was recently named to the Vance Publication's 40 Under 40 list. Roger Pepperl is the marketing director for Stemilt's and says West's roots are deep.
PEPPERL: The have a multi-generational family that's in the business that makes it even a little more dynamic because they all understand where he works and the family all came from that and so it's a supportive family. Being part of the Stemilt team myself I can see it. I can't imagine how much it must have influenced West.
Vance publishes such magazine titles as the AgProfessional and The Packer.
PEPPERL: They're awarding people in agriculture that have made an influential difference in ag and of course you have to be under 40, right? So they've given it to 40 under 40 and we thought of West instantly. He's a strong leader. His attachment to agriculture is obvious, he's been in it since he's been in diapers. His passion for the consumer and for the future of the orchard business in the northwest whether it's apples, pears, cherries or soft fruit he's passionate about all of them, about improvements, it doesn't matter what it is West is involved in it.
40 Under 40 is an annual event.
