Patrick Cavanaugh
Having earned a degree in Agricultural Production from the University of Florida, Patrick Cavanaugh farmed table grapes in Casa Grande, Arizona, for three years. Shifting gears in 1985, he embarked on his career in agricultural journalism as an editor in Fresno, California, writing feature stories for several crop-specific magazines.
In 1994, Patrick launched Pacific Nut Producer magazine, which covers the tree nut industry in the West, including almonds, walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, macadamias, and pecans. The magazine is highly respected and widely circulated. In 1996, he launched Vegetables West magazine, which covers the vast vegetable industry in California.
Since 2011, Patrick has been a daily radio broadcaster for many radio stations in California. He has also been involved in agricultural TV broadcasting and web video reporting. In January 2014, Patrick and his wife, Laurie Greene, launched the California Ag Today Radio Network and broadcasted original, timely agricultural news on 23 radio affiliates in California’s agricultural areas.
In 2019, Patrick sold the California Ag Today Radio Network to Ag Information Network in Walla Walla, Washington, the largest radio network in the West. As the new owners continue to provide daily coverage of California Agriculture, Patrick will collaborate with them on a daily Tree Nut Report to report on this strong, growing and valuable sector; the California tree nut industry has a farm-gate value of more than $8 billion.
The Fresno County Farm Bureau has recognized Patrick Cavanaugh and California Ag Today with multiple first place journalism awards.
